Every outdoor adventure, therapeutic intervention, parents weekend dance performance, ride in the oversized white van, -each of those experiences helped shape my 14 year old self with a fresh belief that life should be fun, exciting, silly, and safe.

Private Lessons
Each student will be given the opportunity to explore a new passion or rediscover an activity that may have been put aside while they are at New Haven.
Service Projects
New Haven participates in various service projects both locally and within the community about two times per month. We do this to provide opportunities to focus on something outside your own experience.
OFF-
CAMPUS
Adventure Days
Twice per month, you will have the opportunity to go off campus for a long adventure day. These activities include a variety of outdoor excursions as well as local community fun.
Job Opportunities
When applicable, New Haven will support you in finding a job that supports your personal growth.
Students’ Favorite Places
Often our students get to help plan the activities that they are going to in the community. Some of our students favorite spots include: bridal veil falls, skating rinks, arcades, puppy store, all abilities park, movie theaters, soda shops, and trampoline parks.
Your Community
When you come to New Haven, you will reside in one of our community houses and experience day-to-day activities with approximately fifteen other students. Bedrooms are shared with one to three roommates, and room assignments rotate often so you can get to know each of your housemates. Each community has its own team of clinicians, residential staff and a representative from school and nursing that make up your treatment team.
You also get to know other New Haven students through school, in groups and other activities on campus. Our two campuses are about 30 minutes apart. You may interact with students from the other campus when participating in sports or campus-wide activities.
Frequently Asked Questions
Students Answering Students
“I was worried I wouldn’t be able to do art or have my music. I was so happy when I found out I could bring my guitar and there was an art class. I worked on really cool art projects that I know will help me with my portfolio when I go to college. I love that I can play my guitar and draw in my spare time. I think it is really healing.” ~ Cassie, age 15
“The social like here is really unique. You make friends with people from all over, who you would never expect. It sounds cliché, but everyone is cool in their own way. Although you will become closest to the girls in your house, you will have free time on the weekend to hang with your friends from other houses. Everyone is accepted as an individual, there is no such thing as cliques & labels. New Haven strives for social individuality. You also get your electronics back at the end of the program, which is nice to reconnect with friends at home as well.” ~ Morgan, age 17
"The animals at New Haven are great. I like how you can adopt a cat when you are on your second phase. We also have horses at New Haven, they are so cute and nice! You also get to ride them and take care of them, which is really fun for me. I also love our dog that we have here, he is the best.” ~ Val, age 16
“Hikes are my favorite things to do at New Haven. We also have gone to nearby water parks, arcades, aquariums, sporting events, and local festivals. We also do a lot of adventure tasks in recreational therapy, which is really hard, but rewarding. This is a form of therapy where you are pushed in different ways, like ropes courses or being blind folded and following other people’s instructions. Adventure is a big part of New Haven." ~ Claire, age 17
"The sports at New Haven are so much fun. You build close connections and build a strong team. I was on the soccer team and it taught me to be more confident with others and myself. It helps students provide a space for them to be themselves. We play soccer, volleyball and basketball against other schools. Sports have built my confidence and leadership. Also, you go on team activities off campus to have quality time.” ~ Olivia, age 16
"The teachers at New Haven are willing to help with girls specific learning needs. They, as a part of treatment team, discuss plans to challenge students, and teach skills to work with all different learning styles. I am really grateful for the teachers here because they genuinely want to connect with me. Classes are engaging and small in size." ~ Hannah, age 15
" Yes! You can write them right away, even on your first day if you want to. You can call your family each week, starting the first week you are at New Haven. As you progress through the phases, you will be able to call more often."
